As a state representative, I will support legislation that increases senior rights, provides affordable housing and care funding, and puts harsher penalties on those who harm seniors.
Throughout 2021 and 2022, senior rights were taken away due to government overreach. Seniors need their rights protected, including the right to make decisions about their own lives, safeguards against elder abuse, and harsher punishments for those who try to exploit seniors.
As a state representative, I will always support legislation that Backs the Blue and Backs the Red so that they are fully funded and equipped. I will also support any program that helps with incentives to recruit and retain police officers, firefighters, and public safety personnel.
Public safety is always a top concern for residents and business owners. Local municipalities need Lansing's help keeping neighborhoods safe by providing additional funding through the state budget and grants. Police departments throughout the state have seen a 19% decrease in police officers and personnel.
As your state legislator, I will push legislation that lowers the state gas tax, seeks cost-saving energy measures, and helps local farmers so that the cost of local food decreases for the consumer.
Families have seen the cost of living skyrocket in the past couple of years. $100 worth of groceries is now $160. Gas prices have increased from $2.17 / gallon in 2020 to $3.60 / gallon in 2024. All of us are making tough economic choices to simply put food on the table, keep the utilities on, and drive to and from work. Due to the increased interest rate, many even need help to buy their first house. As a result, we have bypassed vacations, weekend trips, and going to dinner and the movies.
As a state legislator, I will never support legislation that increases taxes for roads and infrastructure. I will look for alternative funding and identify wasteful spending that can be reallocated to help pay for roads and infrastructure.
The Governor promised that she would "fix the damn roads." In an attempt to do that, she tried to increase the gas tax to a ridiculous amount. Since 2022, Michigan has increased its gas tax by 5.15%. The state's Federal Stimulus Money should help repair the roads, upgrade our infrastructure, and lower the state gas tax.
As a state legislator, I will NOT support the expansion of Sanctuary Cities. I will support any legislation that will assist in strengthening our border with Canada, and I will support local municipalities in protecting their community from illegal immigrants and squatters.
Immigration is the top concern for many Americans in 2024, and our concerns are justified. The number of LEGAL immigrants has mostly stayed the same since 2020. However, the number of ILLEGAL immigrants in Michigan is at an all-time high. There is a right way to enter America and eventually apply for citizenship, but there needs to be a better way that too many are taking.
As a legislator, I will support legislation that increases healthcare quality and options for everyone by supporting measures that decrease Lansing's involvement in the healthcare industry.
Healthcare costs have increased dramatically due to government overreach and oversight. The American economy has repeatedly proven that competition with less government regulation and supervision will result in lower prices for the consumer. This will also work for healthcare. Access to care and overall quality of healthcare will both be increased as well with less government interference. All Michiganders should be able to choose their healthcare options without contending with government red tape.
As a legislator, I will support legislation that proactively will help reduce the opioid abuse crises that Michigan has through healthcare, law enforcement, and education.
The government is not helpless when it comes to battling the growing opioid crisis. Lansing needs to do everything it can to disrupt opioid supply chains and severely punish opioid drug traffickers. In addition, expanding monitoring programs to identify prescription overuse will decrease abuse. Finally, increasing education for all ages regarding opioid use and recovery is a must in the ongoing battle.
As your state legislator, I will support legislation that allows parents to ask questions and get answers from their child's teachers and school administration. I will fight to expand parent rights and try to lift some of the restrictions on parents and their rights as parents.
Education begins at home, and schools help assist a child's education. Until recently, parents had rights over their children's schooling. They got updates on what was being taught and read. Many parents need to fight to access the curriculum and books presented in schools. Parents should have choices in where their student goes to school and have a say in what information is being given to their child.
As your state legislator, I will fight to keep Line 5 Open, seek alternative energy options, but also keep existing energy resources open, and push for less government energy oversight and interference.
Energy costs have increased, putting a lot of financial pressure on property owners and renters. Lansing could lower these costs by lessening unneeded regulations on energy companies. Allowing companies to operate more freely and thus increasing competition will result in lower costs for the consumer. In addition, we need to keep Line 5 open. Closing Line 5 would increase fuel costs exponentially.
As a state legislator, I will support increasing the number of voters through secure registration and requiring identification when voting.
Everyone wants fair and transparent elections. The difference among some is how to reach election integrity. Requiring all voters to show proper identification should never be an issue. We show identification at the bank to withdraw money, when getting on an airplane, when registering children for school, and when filling out papers for a new job. If people want election integrity, start with proper identification.
